Has Akin resigned yet? Does 5PM mean his time, or EDT? I looked earlier for phone numbers...His website won't allow copying, his email only is for people who live in his area, and all phones are as shown below when I dialed them.....Then found the news article....

This guy is a weak sister, and doesn't deserve to be in the race. Even his rival Claire McCaskill says she is saying he should stay in the race (so she can win.....).

Missouri Ground Report: Congressman Todd Akin takes phone system offline at ALL offices on August 20th, 2012

Posted on August 20, 2012 by Kevin DuJan // Breaking News, Featured Content

This is interesting..

Dear HillBuzz,

Just thought you should know that I’ve been trying to reach Todd Akin’s office all day today to tell him how terrible his comments on abortion were. His DC office has not been picking up the phone and it just goes to a message saying all the mailboxes are full. So then I tried calling his district offices. He’s got one in St. Louis, one in St. Charles, and each of those have quite a few numbers listed. I tried each number and the same thing happens, “This mailbox system is not accepting messages”. Looks like the whole Akin staff is in a bunker somewhere in crisis lockdown mode and they don’t even have the decency to listen to constituents who are enraged with him.

Disgusted in St. Charles

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Congressperson do something like this…take ALL the phones off the hook and send everything to voicemail.

It’s more typical for them to put the phones in the Capitol over to voicemail and the the one in the biggest city in their district off the hook…but I can’t remember the last time someone took out ALL lines of communication with their constituents.

Akin needs to withdraw from the race immediately.

It’s paramount that we defeat Claire McCaskill. Not only won’t Akin be able to do that now, but he risks preventing Mitt Romney from winning the state.

Too bad Akin’s taken the phones off the hook or I’d urge every resident of Missouri to let this man know he needs to do the right thing and withdraw from the race (and retire in disgrace from Congress, in my opinion).

UPDATE: By some accounts it looks like Todd Akin’s wife is a social-climbing little diva: I keep seeing that “she won’t let him quit” because she wants “to be the wife of a SENATOR”. That was the kind of attitude Michelle Obama had. There is not much to respect in that if it’s true that she’s the one desperately trying to convince this buffoon to stay in the race, regardless of the damage he does to the rest of Republicans running in this election.

Everyone else, other than Mrs. Akin, is telling this man to do the right thing and quit.
