One thing, if they haven't managed to port PureView, and need say 3 months, they can't announce it or people would wait. And they can't afford people waiting.
Well, Elop does have a track record - when it comes to "burning platforms" announcements - so I would not be shocked if Nokia came out with a W8 Lumia sans PureView and Elop blurted out "PureView is coming, soon," thereby as you said, tank time...
