Nokia (NOK) Could Bolster Sales With Verizon (VZ) Selling Next-Gen Windows Phones8:35 AM ET, 08/22/2012 - Street Insider
Following reports earlier that Nokia (NYSE: NOK) was making it big in the basic-phone market, investors should have another positive signal moving forward: more carrier support.

The first carrier of upcoming Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone 8 devices for Nokia later on this year is expected to be Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ). Microsoft and Nokia will hold a press conference on September 5th to discuss upcoming Lumia models. The event will come in a full week ahead of Apple'sSeptember 12th event, where the Cupertino, CA-based mobile and tech giant is expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone.

News comes as Bloomberg says Verizon is also looking to expand its offerings beyond the Apple iPhone and other Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android-based devices.

Verizon last offered a Microsoft Windows Phone in the HTC Trophy. The carrier has been hesitant with Microsoft since offering Microsoft's KIN smartphone in 2010, a device which saw a lifespan of two months.

Nokia currently offers its Lumia 900 Windows Phone via AT&T (NYSE: T).

Shares of Nokia are up over 4 percent in early trading Monday.
