A couple of years ago we visited Maryland and called our representative to see if we could get a tour of the capital.

He called back an hour later and gave us the time to show up at his office. There we were greeted by a staff member who took a couple of hours to give us a personally led tour that bypassed the big groups and the long lines.

I would recommend calling your representative if you know you are going to be in the area and have an afternoon to tour.
