re the 'not too much not too little just right' silk dresses (qi pao) (i) have been at perfectly serious meetings where sums are at stake by clients w/ china counter-parties, and the atmosphere turned grave due to views about the minutia of deals ... then ... on cue ... tea serving girls appear w/ thermos in hand sashaying around the room ... and somehow the otherwise dreary day breaks and all see that matters of greater importance present themselves should one just be able to work through the hurdles it is especially funny when the format / venue of the higher policy / ceo meetings where all attendants sit in cushy armchairs arranged around a big room with a small tea table between each armchair, and the multitude of qi pao girls go around the room to re-fill the tea cups lot of tea goes through the system in the course of a serious meeting have seen folks who were speaking losing their train of thought in the course of getting own and seeing others' tea cups re filled. absolutely hilarious train wreck. (ii) i recommend to my clients (mostly western) that they absolutely refrain from buying their at-home wives / girlfriends qi pao as gifts. in cases where they recklessly choose to do so, certainly do not pack a long black hair wig as accessory unless have death wish (iii) at some social events, try best not to notice the qi pao attired folks, especially if they have the attributes to match the qi pao, for it causes blindness when eyes struck by wives re gold, gold gets the qi pao observation, that the girls wearing qi pao know exactly what they are doing, and are not being fair about the gaming. okay, enough about qi pao and gold.
