QIHU's business is PC antivirus and PC browser, two businesses threatened if this is the tablet generation. PC AV business is a crowded field, with many products offered free or with big discounts. Their marginal cost is about $0 for one more customer. So they look to "monetize" their "customers" but will discount to hold ones they have.

Baidu has partnered with Apple and is in iOS6 for China locations. That's the best partner.

I'm a little concerned about the search advertising split which hasn't been disclosed. Will it be 30% for Apple? 20%? 50%? Will Baidu be the default search engine but others shown as Google, Bing, and Yahoo show on iPad, with Google first (US)?

Even if it is 30%, that 70% (Baidu) will dwarf what QIHU can get with a proprietary mobile browser, which they don't have yet. They do have a pile of cash. But Baidu has much more, and many employees and real estate.

Google is trying to leech off iPad in the US, with Chrome mobile for iOS.

I liked the last cc. A little more cautious than usual.

Thanks for posting this.
QIHU went up maybe $600m while BIDU went down $6 billion.
