by Darrell Dunn Micron Technology Inc. has begun sampling 125-MHz versions of its 64-Mbit synchronous DRAMs. The devices use a 3.3-V power supply and are packaged in a 54-pin TSOP. They are available in three configurations: 16-Mx4, 8-Mx8, and 4-Mx16. "Micron is manufacturing the 64-Mbit SDRAM on our 0.25-micron process technology, which should enable us to meet the cost and performance targets required by our leading-edge customers," said Kit Fawcett, SDRAM product marketing manager at Micron, Boise, Idaho. "Introduction of these fast 64-Mbit SDRAM components coincides with the PC market and other advanced technology markets beginning their transition from 66-MHz bus speeds to 100-MHz bus speeds in the first half of 1998." Samples of 64-Mbyte and 128-Mbyte DIMMs, designed for operation at 100-MHz bus speeds, are available in 8-Mx64/72 and 16-Mx64/72 configurations, the company said. "Micron has carefully designed both the 64-Mbit SDRAM components and these new modules to meet emerging industry-standard requirements," said Kyle Daniels, module product marketing manager at Micron. Micron is currently manufacturing 16-Mbit SDRAMs utilizing a 0.3-micron process, providing customers with 125-MHz SDRAM components required for building 100-MHz SDRAM modules.
