The results seem to be that IOM gets full wholesale, maintains full margins, doesn't have to manage or pay for a rebate operation, and the retailers increase market demand for Zip drives and disks by competing on drive price.

Sounds very good to me.

What's in it for retailers?

-gets people in the door which gives the retailers a chance to show and sell their other stuff (loss-leader concept from Marketing 101)

-rebates provide retailer with market data about you for planning future promotions/advertising

-they stll make money on the disks...rebate the drives and sell more disks
