And the latest from Indonesia, where exports are showing a marked decline and the Rupiah continues to lose ground against the USD (and other major currencies).

Been watching the Rupiah closely to see if it will challenge 10,000 to the USD. I think we will see that within a few months.

They also have a major run-off election on the 20th for Jakarta Governor. Very controversial as it pits the current incumbent, who seems to be quite unpopular, against outsiders who have a reputation for incorruptibility and efficiency. But the opposition's running mate for Vice-Governor is a Hakka Chinese christian, and we're seeing increase rhetoric from the Muslim leadership (Imams.. political leaders) against electing a non-Muslim to a major office in Jakarta, especially given the likelihood it may lead to a future run for national leadership.

On one hand, the signs are very hopeful that the people are becoming extremely upset with the pervasive corruption, to the point that they are seeking outside leadership. On the other hand, it could create serious turmoil as the entrenched economic and political interests fight to preserve their privileged positions in this city.
