I often ask for a supervisor if it is obvious there is a large language barrier.
Persistence is part of what one has to do.

A hint----------telephone companies--------recently I was trying to get to a Windstream customer service
rep. to pay and change service.

Finally after a half hour or more of this------I called the main number and pushed the number for business service----not residential. I instantly was connected with a gentleman who rapidly changed the home service and now have a private contact number to call with any future request regarding the service and account.

Next, during the storm that hit Virginia-------I was helping friends get their power back on. One friend had had back surgery and was without power for 3 days. I took all of her account info-------called the regular number for service and couldn't get through--------the alternative was to push a button for emergeny service.

So, I pushed the button for tree down or some such-----immediate response.

What I then learned was that the neighborhood of over 100 households next door to her street had service restored the previous day. Their small neighborhood of 25 households had not been looked at-----I told them the friends story by evening the whole street had power.

Another friend had a tree down and went without lights and no air conditioning and food spoiled for almost 5 days---------I told her what to do to simply push the emergency service number. No one had reported the tree down, by evening her service was restored and the tree removed .
