Even though I am not a big fan of Condoleezza Rice, I thought her speech was awesome, and so was Susana Martinez (Governor of New Mexico) who followed her.

When the two of them were speaking (beginning at 10:00), I switched back and forth from Fox to ABC, just to see what ABC was doing (since they only cover the convention from 10 to 11). Throughout Rice's and Martinez's speeches ABC was simply commenting on how the convention has gone so far. The viewer could hear the two speeches vaguely in the background (for a half hour), but they did not allow us to hear them. They spent the entire half hour talking over them. It was apparently much more important for the ABC commentators to provide us their opinions of the proceedings than for us to hear them for ourselves.

And I'm taking bets that, come next week, the ABC crew will suddenly develop a new respect for what is going on live on the floor of the Democratic convention, commenting will be at a minimum, and the viewer will benefit from hearing most of the speeches right from the speakers' mouths.

Just a hunch.
