yes, I am aware of the depleting nature of RTs. After reading the WSJ article by Zweig, who claims that the BPT market cap is greater than the sum of all future distributions, I will probably continue to stay away.

but I had heard that owning RTs may give rise to headaches in which one has to file state returns - if the trust does business in those states. That is what I'm curious about - is this true? If so, why would anyone own a RT if they have to file multiple state tax returns every year?
