Is there any reason not to buy a refurbished drive?<<

Gary -

I wouldn't have a problem with a refurbished drive. It might have minor cosmetic defects, but it's been thoroughly checked out. In fact, the chances of finding a functional defect in a refurbished drive are less than for a new one.
