I have never heard of such a thing. Why would they even suggest that? All the text books I am familiar with start with Native American history, and proceed through colonization, and the revolution, and then the rest of American history. In all high schools I know of, and that's quite a few, freshman year is either geography, or world history, followed by sophomore year- which is world history, for those students who had geography freshman year, and then junior year is AP history (basically covers everything- from man's beginnings to modern) OR American history which covers indian civilizations to the present. Then senior year is 1/2 year of civics (federal and state government, which in California the kids have also had in elementary and middle school), and 1/2 year economics.

A proposal quickly shelved does not equate to the schools actually doing something. The numb nuts out there need to check with their districts. Asking kids is worthless since many of them forget what they had for breakfast much less their history lessons. Although I guess if you can get hold of an honors student they might be able to articulate something sensible.
