I didn't see him pounding the war drums. He was of course garnering his reputation as tough. Obama has had to do the same as President, because Americans are warlike and they like warlike Presidents. Candidates know this.
What I saw more than anything is a person laser focused on the economy and finances. Romney's entire career has been about success within the economy. His credentials and that of Ryan scream fiscal conservative and successful outcomes. He'll do what it takes to get elected and then we'll see how he does on the economy.
As for Putin, I've found Obama to be terribly weak. I pretty much give Obama a B+/A- on foreign policy, although I largely give the credit to Hillary. However, when it comes to Russia, Obama is terribly misguided. He's almost as bad as Bush Jr, who said, "I looked into his eyes and got a sense of his soul...and found him to be straightfoward and trustworthy," after a meeting with Putin. Obama seems to think the same thing.
But let me tell you something. Putin was KGB. A tiger doesn't change his stripes. He is arrogant, Dictatorial, immoral, uncompromising, and absolutely dedicated to returning Russia to the glory days of the Soviet Union. I want a President who understands this and realizes that we need to put Putin back in his cage. We don't need war, but we need to get tougher with Putin. He is corrupting the vestiges of Democracy in Russia and will continue to do so, to everyone's detriment. So I don't want a weak President when it comes to Russia, as we've had with both Bush Jr and Obama.
I'm with Chinu and you on war. I don't want it and we've engaged in too much of it. But one hell of a lot can be done when the US flexes its muscles and doesn't back down in the war of diplomacy. We have done that much recently with Putin. |
