Thanks for that VERY interesting piece on the Corps of Discovery!. I reposted it here: Message 28380502

In my opinion, the two captains, Lewis and Clark, formed a model for leadership that is sadly lacking in this country. They SHARED leadership very successfully. We don't do that anymore because of "The Buck Stops Here" syndrome. Maybe it is all but impossible these days, but I personally think that is very regrettable.

On a personal note, Saturday I traversed part of the Lewis and Clark route from the sole archeologically proven campsite "Traveler's Rest" to Lolo Pass, paralleled the trail down to Canoe Camp where they built canoes for the trip to the Pacific, and from there to Lewiston, Idaho where our paths separated. Their presence is so real I can almost hear the clatter of horses' hooves and the slap of water on their paddles.
