One rumored aspect of the Lumia 920 is a PureView camera. We can confirm that Nokia will indeed brand its Lumia 920 camera as PureView, but that the camera will be an 8-megapixel one — not the 41-megapixel one found on the company's 808 PureView handset. Nokia is focusing on marketing the Lumia 920 as PureView thanks to some advancements in image stabilization and camera software that it plans to ship on the device. The front of the device will also include a 1.3-megapixel camera.
We're expecting Nokia to announce the device on Wednesday for AT&T customers initially, with a launch date expected in late October or early November. Exclusive: Nokia Lumia 920 to include wireless charging, 32GB storage, and 8-megapixel camera | The Verge
So what do we make of all this? There is no comparison with the Nokia 808 PureView, of course – the question is what’s left of the term “PureView” if Nokia is going to use just an 8MP camerasensor for it in the new device. With just an 8MP sensor, there won’t be much left for pixel oversampling, right? The Verge: “Nokia Lumia 920 offers PureView with 8MP camerasensor” | PureView Club
The rest of the phone is a stud on par with competition or better, but the camera will not make it an iPhone, Samsung W8 or Android killer.
Soon as I saw the images of those coming candy colored Nokias, I KNEW they could NOT pack much more than 8MP into a skinny phone without a camera bump like the Nokia 808 has. Presently technically impossible, due to lens/sensor size limits.
Also, availability in late October or early November? Knowing all about Nokia's delays - having experienced five of them with the 808 - I'd say they'll be lucky to deliver by xmas.
