Yes, exactly. Liberals have been the ones to bring the human species into the light of civilization.
What we understand, that the Republicans are oblivious to, is that we live in a society and the welfare of the society comes first. When I talk to Republican's about society, I break it down by using the functioning of a tribe, to help them understand, but they seldom seem to.
But what is going on today that is so sinister, is the aristocracy, is purposely, starting with Reagan I think, confusing working mainstream Republican's by presenting government and society as two different things. When in a democracy, they are exactly the same thing. In fact the aristocracy only talks about government being bad, and doesn't really talk about society at all. As though we don't live in one. Except for defense.
So when they advocate, as Grover Norquist does, making government so small, you can drown it in a bath tub, what he is really saying, is making democracy so small you can drown it in a bath tub. And as democracy shrinks, it makes it easier for the aristocracy to run the country to meet their desires, as a plutocracy, with them at the top, and the rest of us working for them for slave wages and living according to their rules.
The aristocracy, does not want to pay taxes to help the masses/society, or obey rules like national parks being off limits to their commerce. They don't need public schools, or universal health care, or anything except the basics like defense, army and police force and jails (which they fight for) and infrastructure, roads, (which they expect will happen anyway); and so they do not want to use any of their money to help society thrive.
The rest of us, do need a vibrant well functioning society, but as worker Republican's keep getting fed that stupid line of Reagan's: "government is the problem, not the solution") and takes away ones freedom, they vote against their own best interests, and ours, time after time. |
