No doubt NOK screwed the pooch, operationally, again. Total faux launch, worse, over promoted. But, the market reaction doesn't mean the new phones won't sell. Remember the market and the pundit reaction to the 4S? Collectively panned. And the amazement when the sales numbers came in and it was the most successful smartphone ever.
Nokia is no Apple. They had a slim chance to get me, now way gone. But they're doing well with their (unsexy but profitable) new feature phones. And, assuming the new Lumia ever comes out at some price in any country on any carrier, it's probably going to be decently competitive. So I still think NOK is a bottom fisher candidate, not a lock (never was).
Curious to see the iP5 camera. I'm guessing 10-12 MP. Wondering if they'll have any other magic. PureView 808 upped the ante, even if Nokia is way too lame to commercialize it. Apple may have upped it's photo stuff out of misplaced paranoia.
4Q is now the game for smartphones, I think from here on out, forever. Sort of like the new model year cars were when we were kids... eagerly awaited and over analyzed. Nokia didn't hit a home run, it's still a question if they'll have a base hit or a strike out. |
