“There is not a big mystery to it [the share price move] – all the specifications were leaked ahead of time and people knew what to expect,” said Andy Perkins, analyst at Société Générale.

“There was no upside surprise if you like, and there was a lot of excitement built in there,” he added. At Tuesday’s close, Nokia’s share price had gained nearly 70 per cent since its trough in mid July.

Lee Simpson, analyst at Jefferies, added the new Microsoft phones were “not enough to wrench users away from competitors”.
