Great Britain tried to run several African countries as part of the British Empire but with the likes of Idi Amin and Robert Mugabe, it was never going to work out well. Britain cut and ran for it when it was all turning to custard, dropping the portcullis and pulling up the drawbridge, but too late.

Now China, Huawei and other Made in China companies are trying to make a go of it in Africa. They are sensibly avoiding the colonial problems, keeping African countries independent. For now anyway.
