9/7/12 Contest Update
Junk DNA is no longer junk! And, judging by their booming stock prices, you could say the same about lots of biotechs formerly considered junk.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up an astounding 41.37% YTD (vs. up 35.70% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 35.02% YTD (vs. up 30.26% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 20.39% YTD (vs. up 17.84% YTD a week ago).
Among formerly disdained biotechs, Peregrine has certainly been one of the biggest surprises. And following release of encouraging data from its lung cancer drug trial, a late Friday surge by PPHM vaulted ROBERT’s portfolio, now up an amazing 109.94% YTD, into the Contest lead. DONS’ portfolio, up 97.52% YTD, held on to second place and RKRW’s portfolio, up 95.97% YTD, dropped back to third place.
At Friday's close, just 2 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the red, with 23 of the 38 portfolios still beating the NBI.
