We had the most delicious school lunches in elementary school-----
a menu was planned without multiple choices on the same day.

Maybe two choices.

Everything home-made by the cooks in the kitchen.

Home made vegetable soup

Homemade pimento cheese sandwiches

Homemade ham-salad

Home made chicken salad sandwiches

Homemade corn bread and homemade baked bean

Homemade apple pies----lemon meringue or cake, Brownies

Whole fruits in season---apples, pears, oranges, peaches

And periodically a hamburger day or hot dog day

Chili soup (rarely)

Pastas not usually on the menu ----macaroni and cheese sometimes

Potatoe soup

apple salad

We were so very lucky.

In high school we bagged our lunch from home
And traded sandwiches if we didn't like what Mom
had put in the bag. And, took a thermos of soup
or tea, We could pay for a carton of Milk.

Time to cook
