How much of the 5 trillion shortfall was already built into the budget when he took office? The Bush tax cuts were in place, the prescription drug bill was in place, the wars were ongoing, bailouts had been approved and the economy was in free fall.

I'm not saying that his initiatives and policies, and his extension of the tax cuts, had no effect on the increase in the deficit but there is simply no factual argument to support the proposition that Obama started out with a zero budget deficit basis and ran it 5 trillion into the hole.

So maybe that 5 trillion dollar deficit is a reason for not hiring Romney who says he wants to cut trillions more out of taxes, increase the pentagon budget and pay for that and the current projected deficits by cutting unspecified tax deductions and unspecified discretionary spending? Ed
