Thank you for clearing this up for me.....I don't have a margin account set up yet.

I have a self-directed IRA that I trade in more than I thought I was going to do, and I don't think they allow margin accounts in the IRA but am not sure about that.

I also have a couple of small accounts that I trade options and some other short term positions.....I know margin can improve leverage in good times but can really hurt when the market is not doing what I want it to do...I think we will see how bad they can hurt when the full extent of the Japanese financial losses are uncovered ( if the full extent is ever known).

Is there a way i could accomplish the same thing without using margin?
