steve, if you pay top dollar for IDC research reports,
you should be reading them. Here is a snippet from the 11/13
IDC weekly update regarding the business world's view on
staying ahead of the computing power curve.

...corporate users seem sufficiently impressed with the performance characteristics of the high-end PCs to buy them in quantities. Another factor promoting personal workstation sales is the "headroom" argument; to wit: even though the software is not
really in place yet, it is important to get the hardware in anticipation of the future. Earlier in the year, Intel was
promoting heavily its concept of "visually connected computing." Certainly, if the use of heavyweight data types (such as
multimedia and videoconferencing) becomes commonplace in commercial computing, performance PCs will become the norm. Until then, corporate buyers seem receptive to higher performance and promises
of things to come.
