The attempt to "understand why" a criminal commits his crime is a dangerous and slippery slope, it begins to make allowances and justifications for the crime itself and shifts the responsibility from the perpetrator himself to all the reasons why he did the crime in the first place... it's no longer the criminal's fault, the fault belongs to all the reasons why... at some point, and with enough explanation why, the responsibility for the crime no longer belongs to the perpetrator, he's just a victim of circumstances and here's why... the why of the crime shifts the responsibility of the crime from the perpetrator to the "devil in him that made him do it, he just couldn't help himself, it's not really his fault, he's the victim of the devil"... it's the ploy used by the defense lawyers, I don't buy it... GZ
