I know you are a big reader, so trust me just this one time. I started reading Write Hard and Die free by Howard Weaver.

I am just blowing through it, it is such a fast engrossing read.

Weaver is a young journalist, cub reporter investigating organized crime in Anchorage Alaska in the 70's; and fighting the number one paper which was exactly like FOX News and Atwood, the editor like Murdock.

Weaver was brought up like me, left of FDR and schooled in fighting for justice for everyone in society.

He has just run into the Mafia for the first time (23 years old) and it has scared the shit out of him. This is in the pipeline days of the 70's.

I can relate because I was only about 31 when I was state director of alcoholism and drug abuse and I had a huge fight with the mafia. Scared the shit out of me to.

Howard is smarter and braver than I was though.

I know he went on to become a famous editor for maclatchy newspapers.

Really a fun and interesting read and all true about Alaska pipeline hay days and the ins and outs of a small states politics. I am sure he will still get to the hippies running the legislature.

Weaver is a great hero.
