Monkey meat is a lot like squirrel . Spent a week in the jungle about 200 miles south of Machado in 79 - 80 . We were trying to get to a village of early life style/limited knowledge types . It involved walking a trail overland to a river , cross by canoe , then walk until we met villagers . Before leaving the guy who set it up asked me to leave all jewelry , watch and my glasses with him . " But i can not see with out them " he said " where you are going the people will fall in love with some thing shiny and could kill you for it , so be careful " . Gulp . The first day a monkey was shot . We had that smoked and a portion for each nights supper . The last meal was too much and would never eat it again or get close to a situation where it might be offered .
