The sad truth is that it appears wars are the only source of unification in this country Certainly if we use as data samples World War II and Iraq They certainly have nothing in common as to their validity, but as political unifiers, they worked like a charm It may have been that both of them were the result of political calculation Interestingly that would suggest that FDR may have resorted to intentional miscalculation for political cover to employ Keynesian remedies to correct a stalling economy Whereas the GOP beneficiary of a Pearl Harbor event used it to accelerate the looting of the treasury for his supporters One would hope that a more reasonable approach might present itself before someone deems it necessary to use such a mechanism again
