And, btw, classifying cscc and asnd as primary players in a RAS field is totally incorrect, whoever if happened to say this does not know the networking mkt at all let alone thinking about competing in this field. Jach, It appears you are confused about networking. Remote access is broken down into two categorie. The RAS (Remote Access Server) and RAC (The Remote Access Concentrator). The RAS segment may have up to 40 ports whereas anything above 40 ports, is an RAC. There are hgigher margins in the RAC market since the product is newer technology. Dell'ORO groups both RAC and RAS together when providing market share charts. The reason is a company is providing the same features to the end user. The dial-up user in this case. The amount of market share combining both areas is grouped together. The two leading companies int his area are COMS and ASND. Their shares average about 30% each depending upon which quater one chooses. Quarter three of 97 ASND was down to 25% off the top of my head but that is attributed to the problems in getting 56K Flex operational. I believe you will find that ASND will come back to close to even with COMS by the end of quarter 4 of 97. The 56K Flex now works. Both companies have RAS and RAC equipment. The growth is now coming from RAC due to large ISPs. You statement about the person in the interview not knowing the networking market is unfounded and does show a lack of understanding on your part.
