Subjective Author INDEX into NG comp.software.year-2000 (c.s.y2k)

Reasons for this index:

- Many ideas on Y2K appearing on many Y2K Web sites originated from the newsgroup (NG)comp.software.year-2000. Here are some people really 'in the front line' of thinking.

- Because there are also many postings on this NG that are not so useful; spamming from other newsgroups etc, it takes some time to know what is really worthwhile to read.

- Therefore, this is my index (and from James Garde) into the most valuable contributors of this NG. It is subjective(!); these are the people that gave me the most insight into Y2K. I just went through all the c.s.y2k postings that I have saved the last 5 months; and noted the contributors.
(Apologies to any NG contributors that have mistakenly been omitted ;-)). I will expand it; if you think others should be added; please comment!

John

James W. Garde wrote (on 3rd Nov 1997): (with some adaptations from JM) in a posting on c.s.y2k:

"
...
As far as I can tell, this group is soley responsible for the growing
awareness of what we are calling "time dilation" on PC's with many regulars making solid technical contributions.

- Harlan Smith has been banging away on government action (and inaction.)
- Chris Anderson continues to post the most comprehensive set of links anywhere.
- Rick Cowles has some very good insider insights on utilities.
(see accsyst.com - JM)
- Cory Hamasaki talks about staffing
(read all 'DC Y2K Weather reports; amusing and very insightful about issues such as Y2K job market - JM)
- Ron Kenyon & I discuss management.

...
Going back further we've discussed just about every conceivable
platform, test strategies, remediation tools, esoteric bugs uncovered in code, and a host of other topics.
...
The regulars in this group do not claim to be any smarter than the rest of the world. We do have one thing going for us, though: WE'VE SEEN THE CODE. It really is a mess. "

Others: (JM's):

- Mike Echlin; Jace Crouch: investigators in the 'time dilation' problem in PC's

- Dave Eastabrook: MF programmer in Scotland; lots of European insights

- Jim Rivera: Y2K future scenarios etc

- Ed Yourdon: (1 post only): "Re: Computerworld 29 Sept 1997: "Year 2-What?""

- Tony Toews: utilities and other stuff

- Arthur Trembley
