The iPhone 5 Is Completely Amazing and Utterly Boring
That says it perfectly.
I'm looking forward to getting the 5, because I know it's going to be a big improvement over the 4 I'm using. I'll get (improved) Siri, a much better camera, the faster processor, and the slightly bigger screen. Oh, and better battery life, too. I'll also have to spend some money on adapters.
But for some reason, I'm just not that excited. Well, I know the reason. It's that we knew almost everything there was to know about the 5 long ago. So the announcement was just as anticlimactic as I knew it would be.
I wonder if it's even possible for Apple to keep details about upcoming products secret anymore, given the massive scale of their manufacturing operations, the extremely high level of interest, and the sheer number of people who want to ferret out those secrets.
I mean, think about it. People have been talking about the iPhone 5 for almost a year, now. This has been the most massively anticipated iPhone release yet, and that's saying something.
So I'll buy the 5, and I'll probably really enjoy using it, too. I wish we could have had a few more surprises yesterday, but maybe this is the new normal. We'll know almost everything there is to know about each new product well before it is announced, and the events will become perfunctory. |
