This latter is the biggest surprise to me and is going to be the most serious negative for Romney; not the specifics of what happened. It now looks as if Romney will have to win the first debate, clearly and decisively, to stay in this race, barring the usual exogenous factor problem. If he loses or just breaks even, the Republican money continues to dribble away into down ballot races. Or just floods over.
