So Martin Luther King is the authority on what rights come from where?

Didn't realize a few words from MLK would lead to controversy with a moderator of a Center and Left thread. You sound like Stalin when he asked how many divisions the Pope had.

Can you prove right come from an invisible friend?

No, I gave up proofs regarding an invisible friend halfway through geometry. I'm aware that the God concept is offensive to many, which is why I offered a Buddhist perspective in the posting to which you responded.

Can you enforce these rights, if no actual real people agree with them?

Stalin couldn't've said it better.

How about the more logical theory that rights are what people say they are, and they only matter if other people will honor them.

That sounds like something a Red Queen would say (or was that Humpty Dumpty?). Maybe the government should institute a Department of Free Speech to make determinations about what hurts peoples feelings and offends their beliefs in order to stamp out free speech abuse. That was the plot of a novel I read at the same time I was learning geometry. It's called 1984. Have you read it?
