Tell you what; drop some acid and view the situation from the viewpoint of a horny Egyptian youth with no job and no prospects and a belief in his Prophet every bit as strong as that of a rabid evangelical who threatens to kill an artist who puts Jesus in a jar of piss. Then you'll be connecting with that universe.
I notice, however, that nobody got killed when that artist put the crucifix in the jar of piss. The worst thing that happened is that there was a movement to kill funding for the National Endowment of the Arts. No riots. I don't even remember there being demonstrations.

Muslims have a view that I find it difficult to understand. Many of them seem to think that because it's not cool, in their religion, to create an image of Mohammed, everybody else in the world has to abide by that, too.

It's analogous to jewish people rioting because gentiles eat non-Kosher foods. Picture angry mobs of Chasidim storming every McDonalds in the world. It's ridiculous.
