<<Why do you think so? and how it will fit in today western society?>>
i see 2-parts question re
"polygamy was a workable system, and under certain circumstances, a good idea"
re why do i think so,
(i) <<polygamy was a workable system>>
the system did work in all lands at one or another point under circumstances whereby genie coefficient enabled prerogatives were tee-ed up resulting in more fortunate children than there otherwise would have been, that dada of certain means were able to keep more wives busy bringing up more kids, so that the greater grouping could first survive and then maybe flourish
simply a matter of historical fact.
(ii) <<and under certain circumstances, a good idea>>
for example, in geographies depopulated by war where able-bodied male are in short supply, they must be called to duty to repopulate as quickly as possible before the onset of yet another war.
it is simply a matter of math.
re how it might fit in today western [any] society?
for groups at edge of extinction, the group might consider the practical aspects of polygamy, else not doing a favor for the group
i.e. repopulation post any war or natural disaster of a scale that be a downward step function
at some point japan, russia, singapore, greece, etc etc and certain groupings in usa etc may have to reconsider polygamy issue else face extinction ala incas and mayans |
