On your 808. Is it actually activated? Yes. I'm on a T-Mobile family plan with my son. Phone only, no texting, no data. Bare, cheapest basics. We both started with free Samsung dumb phones, then I got a free, hand me down iPhone 3g, AT&T freed it up for use with any other carrier, so I dumped my Samsung and used the iPhone until I got the 808. Then I gave the iPhone to my son, who was very happy, until he lost it, so he's back to the dumb Samsung. Meanwhile, I adore my 808.
Can you buy an 808, and just use it as a camera? Yes. I have a friend who got one at the same time I did, for a trip to Europe. Hasn't activated it yet. He's on an AT&T plan, and if he activates a smart phone on that plan, they'll automatically switch on data, which will vastly bump up his charges. So, he's not activating it until his cheap, dumb phone AT&T contract expires, in about a month, then he'll activate his 808 on T-Mobile's bare bones family plan, with his sister, just like I did with my son.
Oh, and in case you wondered like I did, the folks at the T-Mobile store do know how to extract contacts and stuff from any phone and deposit it into the 808. The guy who transferred it for me from my iPhone was absolutely blown away by the 41MP part of the 808. Totally blown away. I could tell in a nanosecond he wanted one: envy was written all over his face. A lot of people react to it like that, no matter which phone they own. A LOT! :-))) |
