The Verge reports that Skype is preparing to add video messaging to its clients on various platforms. This will allow users to send video snippets to friends and family, to be played back when they next sign in.

The service is said to be part of Microsoft’s integration with Windows Live Messenger, and was part of that platform before it was it was discontinued in 2010.

The service is expected to go live as early as October, and will be accompanied by new Metro-style apps for all supported platforms, a Windows 8 client and Outlook.com integration.
