I would really like to see GTE and BT get together. At the time of GTE's announcement that it was going after MCI it occured to me that maybe, just maybe, it was a round-about play for GTE to link up with BT.

I have held GTE for many years. GTE made it plain earlier this year that it wanted a strategic alliance with Telefonica de Espana, largely because GTE is very interested in Latin American and Telefonica has lots of holdings down there. Well, the merger between MCI and BT convinced Telefonica to link up with BT.

Now, I think, GTE gets a second shot at the alliance that they wanted all along. Maybe they never seriously wanted/expected to get MCI?

In the meanwhile, the news about GTE was enough to get me $1050.00 each for the Jan 2000 $45 LEAPS contracts I bought for $635 just a few weeks ago. I have a feeling I left alot on the table with these leaps, but as history has pointed out: GTE can go down fast if the market frowns on it's plans for marriage :o)
