Its complicated.

Interstate highways are exactly the kind of economic stimulus and meaning of "someone didn't get rich alone" that Obama commonly speaks of. Plenty of stimulus money went into the interstates.

As far as immigration politics -- as I said, its complicated, I recollect Reagan, like many Republicans today, advocated another Bracero program. en.wikipedia.org I suspect this is where Romney policy would go, though he has not been specific about his "immigration reforms" he promises in order to get more "Hispanic" vote..

Ironically and symbolic of our convoluted left, in my experience hardcore union U.S. males can be among the most anti undocumented immigrant groups. Put 'em in jail and/or on a bus back to Mexico, all of them. I personally recall that the UFW (Caeser César Chávez and Delores Huerta were great American heroes to in my school years) was not given widespread support by the (primarily white) unions - they battled and stones flew. Today, immigration is a wedge issue Republicans use to get white working class male votes, including a surprising amount of union members..

Lastly I would offer this. Do you think Obama would appoint an ideological Supreme Court Justice as Romney would?? Why does a great left Independent progressive like Bernie Sanders, or my House Rep Barbara Lee, support Barak Obama?? Just as Gore was not the same as Bush Jr., Obama (may not be Ralph Nader but he) is 160 degrees more progressive than Mitt Romney. We take what we can get, this is not a one-party state, pragmatism moves us forward after the right beats us down.
