re: making a choice
I'm not convinced we have to make a choice this early. I think you can lay out our strategy in a pretty simple manner, and I believe if we execute correctly we can come out positioned quite well regardless of who wins. To summarize, the plan is to basically:
o maximize the return on NCD branded (or re-branded) Windows based terminals. I believe this will have the maximum volume/revenue impact over the next 18-24 months.
o leverage the more sophisticated view of networked desktops by building products with our partner IBM. What they are trying to do involves too many infrastructure changes for NCD to carry on alone, but for the future of the company, particularly wrt innovation in the whole intranet/Java/extranet space, NCD needs to be active, if only in an R&D sense.
o maximize the return on some of our traditional products in the Unix space. In particular, sell X terminals, PC-Xware, and WinCenter into our traditional customer base, since each of these products is relatively mature, and solves real problems for this customer niche.
It may not be the grand and glorious plan a startup might roll out, but then we're not suggesting dropping $10M into football ads like our friend Larry is, either :). |
