Microsoft tries very hard not to play favorites with its partners, but I think they did intentionally give Nokia a small head start in WP8. I must say that HTC appears to be coming out the gate very strong.

Its going to be interesting to see how it shakes up. My opinion is that Samsung, after having dominated the gen 7 phones with their original Focus (SGH i917), is not going to do nearly as well in gen 8. Their WP8 design looks rather like a clone of their Android phones. If I wanted a Galaxy SIII - a great phone, I'd go out and buy one. Their WP 7.5 phone was good, but uninspiring.

I think HTC knows their roots and is returning to what made them successful to begin with. It is very meaningful that their WP8 phone looks both fantastic and quite differentiated from their Android phones.
