A vast majority of Americans pay federal taxes, either income tax or payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare — or both — as well as other federal fees.

A strong minority don't pay income tax (after account for EITC and other refundable credits). A not-insignificant number pays no net federal tax at all (doesn't pay payrolls taxes, or refundable credits are more than they pay in payroll taxes and federal fees). Count federal benefits and you have a majority that gets more from the feds then they give to the feds. Which doesn't necessarily make them freeloaders, they often contribute in other ways beyond supporting the federal government, but still it is true that for more and more people the net flow of money is from the federal government while for Romney and most of the rich, the flow is to the federal government.
