Also, from what I saw, the "deductions he could have taken that he didn't," if he weren't running for President, he would have taken. Because so much was made of the 13.9% he paid for 2010, he decided to forego enough of the deductions so the presented draft with the watermark wound up with a higher percentage than 13.9%. If those $4m deductions were taken and they would have offset investment income taxed at 15%, the Romneys' rate for 2011 would have been just under 13.75%.

So they discussed how much (deductions) not to take, $2 million, $3 million, or $4 million. They settled on the $4m. Because 14.1 looks so much higher than 13.7.

Harry Reid will probably check the math.

Romney's advisers have probably reminded him that he said he pays not one more cent than is required.
