LG Optimus G tipped to become the Optimus Nexus?

LG’s forthcoming superphone may become the fourth Google-backed Nexus smartphone and help spread the gospel of Jelly Bean.

Could Google adopt the LG Optimus G super smartphone, one that has just been launched with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as its next flagship model to promote the Android 4.1 OS?

That’s a theory suggested by Android site, Android Community, based on an unnamed source. The phone, which comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 system-on-chip – a quad-core monster clocked at 1.5GHz - features the promising Miracast technology, but has no microSD card.

It also includes 2GB of RAM, 32GB onboard storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 4.7in 1,280 x 768 True HD IPS Plus display, a 2,100mAh battery plus Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Whether the move actually makes sense is something else. Google owns Motorola Mobility and it could easily use its own devices as pioneers. One could argue though that it didn’t do so with the Google Nexus 7 and instead choose to get Asus, rather than Motorola to do it.

In addition, LG and Sony Mobile are the two major Android partners that have yet to get the privilege of getting a Nexus device. So will the LG Optimus G be called the Optimus Nexus? Who knows?
