The Govt. is aware of ozne and its uses; however, the material below leads me to believe that the govt. has a problem with ozone and meat products. Recently, ozone has been approved by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) for use as an antimicrobial to treat poultry prechiller water. This approval requires that water is taken outside the prechiller, treated with ozone, and the water returned to the prechiller. Ther treated water returning to the prechiller must not contain any ozone when reentering the prechiller i.e.,<< ozone is not permitted to contact poultry directly.>> The inspector in charge (IIC) should be assured by the establishment through appropriate testing that no ozone is reentering the prechiller. Someone else had a link which discussed the prechiller and this just reconfirms that information. IMHO, it may be sometime before ozne is used in the meat industry because all the govt. speaks of are "guidelines" never do they get to the issue of enforcement and what is effective. Again, IMHO Hudson Foods was put out of business because of the inefficencies of the govt. not because of a clear cut policy. The ratio of 20 sick people, probably only 40 lbs of beef total, no exact known source, and a 25 million lb. recall, tells me someone in govt is trying to cover their_ _ _, at the expense of this company and all of its employees. I am seeing more and more smoke screens like this coming out of our officials and it will not be good for the country or our people. Opinions???? |
