I think Obama is right to say that he doesn't consider them either friend or foe right now.

I agree with that statement but hidden within that statement I believe is another one..............Obama is saying that Egypt is feeling its way towards democracy but has not found its footing yet.........and patience may be in order. Getting to democracy can be a very painful process; to whit, the US had to go through an attack by a foreign power and a very serious Civil War.........a period of 70 years............before it began to truly stabilize.

I am not excited that the Muslim Brotherhood holds the power but that's what a majority of Egyptians have decided and we MUST respect their choice. Nonetheless, Morsi appears to a be a fairly clever man and adept at dealing with the diverse population he represents. More importantly, it appears he stood up to the military and has won.......at least momentarily. And we have to appreciate how big a move that is..........the military is what has run Egypt both politically AND economically for decades. Their wealth is derived from the many economic institutions they control. They are very concerned about losing that control. For them to step down is big.........if that is what truly has happened.

As for the marriage of girls at 9..........of course its barbaric and archaic. But part of Morsi's base is made up of very conservative Muslims who believe such crap. I doubt that includes Morsi but in this fragile moment, he can't afford to alienate any of his base. And we have to remember it took Obama 4 years to implement DADT and to support gay marriage............this in a country where people more educated and less radicalized than in Egypt.

I say give the dude more time.........and see what he does going forward.
