Re -- I doubt seriously it will bring the demise of Dell over not having it, nor will it bring the demise of CPQ for having a sub-zero.

No, but the moment it becomes obvious that one has the advantage over the other (percieved or real) expect the stock prices to adjust accordingly.

Currently CPQ is using its retail pricing to drive down its costs, and to leverage higher margins on its higher priced pc's. If Dell does not work on getting its costs, correspondingly down, DELL will be at a distinct disadvantage.
