For decades, the ever-growing administrative state has made it increasingly difficult for business leaders to do their jobs. ........... much of what passes for regulation has nothing to do with protecting the environment or making the markets safer; it’s about power, control, and revenue. And sometimes, it’s about protecting the interests of one group at the expense of another.
Many years ago I sat on a hospital medical board meeting, and the discussion was about introducing some policy which would place us in compliance with some new regulation, which - some members thought - was going to be passed in the near future. I spoke up, saying that here we are, complaining about excessive regulation, and in the meantime passing our own, intended to *preempt* regulations that MAY be passed by the government. My comment was taken very warmly, people smiled, nodded their heads -- but passed the new policy anyway.
That's how life is - in the world of constantly expanding government power. Preemptive, willing dhimmitude towards bureaucrats is what makes it possible. |
